Why Gender Diversity Matters

Gender diversity matters in microfinance. WWB champions gender diversity because we believe that diverse perspectives lead to stronger decisions and healthier, more vibrant organizations. Incorporating women’s voices when designing and delivering microfinance products is particularly important when a majority of clients are women. Equally as important, microfinance clients often speak of the inspiration they derive from seeing powerful women leaders in the organizations that serve them. How best to achieve diversity? The answer lies in leadership and technical skill development of individual, high-potential leaders as well as in organizational transformations to ensure that all women and men work in environments where they can perform, excel and lead.

“Transforming the Landscape of Leadership in Microfinance: Maintaining the Focus on Women” introduces WWB’s new methodology for helping MFIs support gender diversity at all levels of their institution. WWB has expanded its Women’s Leadership Development Program, which works with individuals, to include a tool that focuses on the challenges and opportunities microfinance institutions face in the attraction, retention, and promotion of qualified women staff members - the Organizational Gender Assessment. Now available in English and Spanish.

Program Details - Advanced Leadership Workshop

Program Details

  • Program Costs: The 2011 program costs, including tuition, housing, breakfast and lunch, and course materials is US$1500. A discount will be offered to institutions who send more than one participant to a program (25% discount for any registrations after the first participant), or who submit applications for both the Advanced Leadership and Coaching programs (25% discount for second program). 
  • Hotel: Participants will be housed in the Aresty Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. The Steinberg Conference Center at the Aresty Institute provides all of the amenities of a hotel, such as private bath, linens, color television, hair dryer, radio alarm clock, and daily housekeeping services. Laundry services are available for a fee. There is same-day service if dropped off at the front desk by 8:30 a.m. Check-in is anytime after 12:00 noon on the day before your program starts. Additional details will be provided once the individual’s application has been approved and registration has been completed.
  • Travel to Philadelphia: Participants are responsible for making all of their own travel arrangements to Philadelphia, including flights, visas (where applicable), and ground transportation to and from The Aresty Institute.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch are included as a part of the conference package.
